Hannes Snellman advised Finnish State enterprise Metsähallitus on the disposal of rights to three projects located in Simo, Kajaani, and Pyhäntä with a total envisaged nominal capacity of 800 MW to Nordic Generation. Nordic Generation is backed by the Octopus Energy Renewable Infrastructure Trust plc (ORIT) and Sky — two funds managed by Octopus Energy Generation, one of Europe’s leading investors in renewable energy projects.

Hannes Snellman advised Exilion, a leading Finnish renewable energy investor, on its approximately EUR 17 million investment into a 30 MW/66 MWh energy storage facility in Mäntyharju. Once operational in 2026, the facility will provide critical balancing capacity to the electricity market and enhance power system stability. Our team provided comprehensive legal advice on negotiating construction, supply, services and transaction contracts with Merus Power.

The Rajamäenkylä wind farm in Karijoki and Isojoki will be completed in 2028 and comprise 54 Nordex N175/6.8 wind turbines with a total capacity of 367 MW. The Honkakangas wind farm in Halsua will be completed in 2027 and comprise 16 Nordex N175/6.525 wind turbines with a total capacity of around 105 MW. The projects have a long-term PPA with a multinational corporate offtaker, and OX2 has also secured a long-term debt financing agreement with Santander Corporate & Investment Banking. The investment amounts to more than EUR 700 million, and the wind farms will remain under OX2’s ownership once constructed.

Hannes Snellman advised OX2 in respect of the construction contracts for full grid and balance of plant, turbine procurement, PPA, development, as well as Finnish law aspects of the project financing.
