Corporate Citizenship at Hannes Snellman 2025

In the course of 2025, we dedicated more than 1,800 hours in total to pro bono work for various organisations.

Some of our other corporate citizenship highlights for the year include:

Annual Donations in 2025

We made a donation to our long-term partner UNICEF. Our cooperation with UNICEF includes, among other things, pro bono legal advice, working with UNICEF’s testament donation programme enabling individuals to leave a legacy for children in need, and monetary donations to support humanitarian work and development programmes around the world.

In addition to UNICEF, as chosen by our staff, we made donations to the Federation of Mother and Child Homes and Shelters, Cancer Foundation Finland, and Terhokoti.

The Federation of Mother and Child Homes and Shelters is an organisation dedicated to ensuring that babies receive safe care, children are considered in separation situations, and domestic violence ends. Cancer Foundation Finland supports cancer patients and their loved ones and finances cancer research with the aim that no one should lose their life to cancer. Terhokoti is a specialised hospice in Helsinki, supporting seriously ill patients and their loved ones when facing illness and death requires exceptional professional expertise.

One of our traditions is to make annual donations to charities that share our values. The chosen causes reflect the UN Sustainable Development Goals that we at have identified as our top priorities: Reduced Inequalities and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

Cooperation with Commu for the #1000tekoa Food Aid Event

We first partnered with Commu to support those in need at the #1000tekoa event in 2023. Continuing our cooperation in 2025, we served as the main national partner for Commu’s #1000tekoa event in Tampere. During the charity event, 1,000 bags of food and 500 warm lunches were distributed to those in need. We contributed financially to support the event, and our staff members volunteered their time at the event.

Commu is an award-winning platform recognised by the United Nations and the largest helping platform in Finland, connecting those in need with those willing to help.

UN Global Compact

We continued to integrate the Global Compact and its principles into our business strategy, culture, and daily operations. We have been a proud member of the UN Global Compact Network, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, since 2020. The network supports companies in conducting business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, which cover human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. It also encourages taking strategic actions to advance broader societal goals, emphasising collaboration and innovation.

Corporate citizenship and pro bono work have been deeply embedded in our culture and operations since Hannes Snellman founded the firm in 1909. Each generation of our team has upheld and advanced our heritage of community service, ensuring that our practices evolve and remain relevant over time. For us, corporate citizenship and sustainability represent the practical realisation of the core professional values of our firm, attorneys, and legal professionals.
