Hannes Snellman Advised SSAB in Key Contracts with Danieli, SMS, NCC, and Peab for Luleå Transformation Project

Hannes Snellman advised SSAB in its transformation project initiated with the decision to build a fossil-free mini-mill in Luleå, Sweden, including recent key technology contracts with Danieli (comprising two electric arc furnaces, secondary metallurgy, a caster and strip mill) and SMS (cold rolling complex), and contracts for planning and execution of building and civil engineering work with Peab and NCC for the cold mill complex and mini-mill sites extending over an area of 30 and 40 hectares, respectively.

Once completed, the new mini-mill will replace the current blast furnace-based steel production system, resulting in an estimated 7% reduction of the total CO2 emissions of Sweden. Startup of the new mini-mill is planned at the end of 2029. The total mini-mill investment is estimated to amount to EUR 4.5 billion.

Hannes Snellman’s core team comprised Katja Perätalo, Elina Uitto, Axel Rosengren, Tuuli Pikkarainen, Josefina Aalto, Emmi Nuutila, Rauli Elenius, and Victoria Reiter.
