Maria Wasastjerna’s Article in Finnish Competition Law Association Yearbook
19 September 2019
Partner Maria Wasastjerna’s newest article titled “Blurred Lines: The German Facebook Case and the Interlink Between Competition Law and Data Protection” has been published by the Finnish Competition Law Association in its yearbook (Kilpailuoikeudellinen vuosikirja 2018).
The article analyses the German competition authority’s ground-breaking ruling where, for the first time, a violation of data protection rules was applied to establish an infringement of competition law. In the article, Maria highlights and problematises some of the key features and challenges of the data collection practices that the case reveals. In addition to its value for the professional considerations regarding competition law, the article also contributes to the larger-scale policy debate over the relationship between the rapidly digitalising economic and commercial dealings and personal data.
The article is part of Maria’s doctoral research at the University of Helsinki, where she will hold her public defence next month.
