3 April 2020

When did you start working at Hannes Snellman?

I started working as an associate in our Finance & Restructuring team in September 2018. Prior to this, I studied law and finance at Lund University.

Can you describe your working group?

The Finance & Restructuring team handles matters related to financing acquisitions, restructurings, and insolvency and assists clients with regulatory matters, and we prepare and negotiate all documentation related to these matters. We are involved in many cross-border transactions, meaning that we also work a lot together with our Finnish finance colleagues. We also often work with our Private and Public M&A teams, e.g. in relation to due diligence processes or bond issues.

What kinds of tasks belong to an associate in your projects?

As an associate in our team, I get to draft and negotiate the main part of the documents that are to be delivered to the lenders under a financing arrangement, such as board minutes and pledge agreements. Furthermore, I handle correspondence with our counterparties and clients, do finance-related due diligence, and assist with signings and closing. The tasks vary depending on the matter, and the longer you have worked the more responsibility you get.

You spent some time abroad during your studies. Could you tell us more about that?

I spent one of my final semesters in Montreal, Canada, and studied at École des hautes études commerciales as a part of my business studies. It was really a fantastic fall and winter, meeting people from all over the world and getting to live abroad for a longer period, which in my view really develops you as a person. I would definitely recommend a semester abroad to anyone who is contemplating whether or not they should go and consider this time one of the highlights of my studies.

What do you like most about your job?

That for most of the time, no day is the same and that you are being challenged by new tasks all the time, which makes you learn a lot while working. I also like that you are working close with colleagues in both your own team and cross-business areas, from whom you also learn new things and get new perspectives.
