Get to Know Us | Lovisa Hilding, Junior Assistant, Office Services, Stockholm

31 January 2023

Tell us about a typical day as a junior assistant at Hannes Snellman?

I work in two teams, primarily in Finance & Restructuring team but also in the Office Services team. In Finance and Restructuring, my role is to facilitate and streamline the lawyers' work. My tasks vary from day to day depending on what the lawyers need help with. Some of the most common tasks are conflict check and case registration, two steps for new cases. If the case’s client is new to us, I do a CDD (Client Due Diligence). The CDD process includes money laundering control and the collection of information about the client and client contact. Other common tasks are public searches with authorities and courts, document management, expense, print and copy jobs, running errands, handling calendar invitations, and many other administrative tasks.

In office services, I help in the reception and conferences when needed, e.g. at closings, external meetings, events, internal celebrations, etc.

Can you tell us a little bit about the group you work in and how you work together as a team?

I work in the Finance & Restructuring Group, colloquially known as FiRe. The group works with financing, acquisitions, corporate loans, and restructuring, as well as insolvency issues and banking and financial market regulations. The cases are both domestic and cross-border cases, where we represent, among others, debtors, creditors, and investors.

The group's partners manage the projects and decide who will be involved in them. Me and the group's legal assistant are not involved in any projects, but many of the tasks we receive are linked to the projects. If we receive larger tasks, we do them together, so we often brainstorm ideas and learn from each other. In addition to a junior assistant's duties, the legal assistant is also responsible for the group's invoicing.

How did you find the position at Hannes Snellman?

After graduation, I started working in a restaurant but quickly felt that I wanted to try something else, preferably in an industry I was interested in and that would challenge and develop me. In high school, I studied economics and law, so after law courses, legal high school work, and participation in the Juridik-SM, a job in the field of law felt attractive. When searching for job, I found out that Hannes Snellman was looking for a junior assistant. The position sounded exciting and the company seemed like a professional and welcoming workplace. After the application and interviews, I was offered the job. I accepted without hesitation, which is a decision I haven't regretted for one second since then.

Would you recommend the position of a junior assistant to others?

Absolutely, especially for those interested in the legal profession. As a junior assistant, you get a foot into the industry thereby gaining an understanding of the profession and its practical meaning. The position and the working environment allow you to develop on both personal and knowledge level, which is useful regardless of what you want to study and work with later on in your career.

What is the most enjoyable thing about your job at Hannes Snellman?

The best part is the variety of work tasks, which means that I get to learn new things all the time. Also, the appreciation from the colleagues, which proves me that my work is important and makes a difference, which gives motivation to keep developing. The role has also developed me into a more mature and independent person through demands for personal responsibility, seriousness, and commitment. Finally, the colleagues. Conversations with persons of different seniority have given me valuable tips and lessons I can take with me in life. There is always a pleasant atmosphere in the office, where both work and fun activities come together.
