How did you end up as a law student trainee at Hannes Snellman?
I have always been eager to take on new challenges and gain valuable experiences. I also have a great interest in the IP and tech field of law and saw the trainee programme as a unique opportunity to gain insight into what it is like working at a leading law firm. Additionally, I did not appreciate studying remotely at all and, therefore, took the opportunity to work during this past semester instead. Thus, I did not hesitate to apply when Hannes Snellman published the application in question. A couple of weeks later, Annie Tillmo from HR contacted me to arrange an interview, and afterwards I was offered the position. My spontaneous thought was “why not” and I decided to accept the offer, excited to start working at the firm. This turned out to be a really good decision, and I will forever be grateful for this unique opportunity!
What was your first impression of Hannes Snellman?
I have always had a very good impression of Hannes Snellman, for example from Juristdagarna. Juristdagarna is a labour market fair aimed at law students which I, among some other students, arranged last year. More specifically, I heard about the IP & Tech Team mainly through my involvement in Tech Academy Nordic as an ambassador. Tech Academy is founded by Linn Alfredsson from the IP & Tech Team, and Hannes Snellman is a partner to the project.
Could you please tell us a little bit about your time here as a law student trainee?
My time at Hannes Snellman has helped me develop, both on a professional and on a personal level. For instance, I have developed my ability to take on and solve completely foreign issues — everything from the labelling of cosmetics to matters regarding cybersecurity. I have also, quite obviously, generally learned lots about IP & tech law, especially data-related tech law. My tasks have been very varied and consist primarily of legal investigations, translations, and drafting agreements and articles. One task I will remember for a long time is writing a comprehensive report regarding data sharing between organisations together with two of my colleagues in the team.
The spread of COVID-19 has of course affected my time here at the firm, and I have been working both remotely and at the office. Luckily, working from home has been a positive surprise for me, and everything has worked out fine. For the whole duration of my trainee period, my group has been really inclusive and supportive. I truly feel like a part of the team, and I will definitely miss my team a lot. While at the office, there have been many exciting ping pong games, especially against my fellow trainee Gustav.
How would you describe the Hannes Snellman culture?
I would describe the Hannes Snellman culture as welcoming and relaxed. The atmosphere is really familiar, and everyone is allowed to be themselves. It is always a fun time being at the office!
